Comprehensive Healthcare Package


Job Title: Cook
Department: Event Services
Reports to: Executive Chef/Sous Chef
FLSA Status: Hourly/FT40
Shift: 1st, evenings and weekends as required by special events


Summary:
This position is responsible for the preparation and presentation of all food items for restaurant and catered events. The ideal candidate will have both line and production experience and be willing and able to comfortably shift between the two.


Duties and Responsibilities
• As directed by the Executive Chef and/or Sous Chef, assist in prepping, grilling, sautéing, baking or cooking all food items for Event Services.
• Responsible for knowing each menu item, its proper ingredients, preparation and presentation to guests, and fulfilling those requests.
• Sets up and breaks down stations, ensuring that all areas of kitchen are kept clean and organized.
• Must understand and ensure safety and sanitary working conditions as well as proper temperatures for food service and storage.
• Always looking for ways to improve processes, minimize waste, and control inventory costs.
• Take active role in requesting additional training or cross training.
• Work closely with other kitchen and event staff to ensure timely completion of each order.
• Maintain a positive attitude at all times especially when "in the weeds." Must be able to multi-task and work effectively in an extremely fast paced environment while maintaining organization.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Must have working knowledge of various prep and cooking techniques.
• Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personalities and successfully communicate with all levels inside the organization.
• Must possess good knife handling skills.
• Must possess planning and organizational skills, verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills.


Education / Experience:
• High School diploma or GED required. Must have 3-5 years kitchen/cook experience in a high volume restaurant/catering setting. Consideration may be given to less experienced candidates who have completed culinary school.


Working Conditions
Requires a willingness to work a flexible schedule and will require weekend and/or evening work. Working conditions are normal for a kitchen/catering environment.


Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, twist, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, use repetitive wrist and hand movement, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
