Job Title:                    Bar Steward

Department:               Event Services

Reports to:                 Catering Manager/Restaurant Manager

FLSA Status:             Hourly, Part Time

Shift:                         Varies - predominantly evenings and weekends as required by special events

Date:                         August 2018

 

 

Summary:

This position is responsible for bar setup/breakdown, stocking, the handling of bar revenue, and overall bar maintenance for performances and events, as well as directing any employees involved in these functions, and aiding and directing volunteers during performances. The ideal candidate will also have restaurant/catering serving experience, as this position will be expected to crosstrain as a Server.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sets up, breaks down, cleans, and stocks performance and catering bars.
  • Responsible for handling, depositing, and recording large sums of money during and following events and performances, including bar revenue and tips for bar staff.
  • Provides support to staff and volunteers on above bars by keeping bars stocked with necessary product, glassware, and other bar items, and by providing continuous support during performances.
  • Maintains neatness and cleanliness of bars and bar storage areas, and ensures that all alcohol is stored in a secure, locked location at all times when not in use.
  • This position will help provide accurate daily, weekly, or monthly inventories of all alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and concessions in our facilities.
  • Assists during banquet setup/teardown, helping direct bar service staff during functions and supporting all service staff as needed.
  • Assists management in accurate and timely tracking of bar service for events.
  • Provides excellent customer service and promote a positive work environment.
  • Encourages additional training and development of staff. Mentors staff in proper bar service and controls, health and nutrition guidelines, proper inventories and ordering of supplies, cleanliness and equipment maintenance etc.
  • Fosters a teamwork atmosphere with all staff so that major events or busy times are accomplished with minimum stress.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personalities and successfully communicate with all levels inside the organization and outside clientele.
  • Must possess excellent planning and organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills.
  • Must have bartending experience and excellent customer service skills.

 

Education / Experience:

  • Must possess at least 2 years experience as a bartender/server in a restaurant and catering setting. High School diploma or GED required.

 

Working Conditions

Requires a willingness to work a flexible schedule and will require weekend and/or evening work.  Working conditions are normal for a bar/catering environment.

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
