Job Title:                     Property Assistant

Department:                Property Management

Reports to:                 Property Supervisor w/dotted report line to Garage Manager          

FLSA Status:             Non-Exempt

Shift:                          1st, shift primarily with an occasional rotation of shifts or on call as

                                  needed. Mandatory overtime may be required per operational   needs.

This position is responsible for the overall housekeeping and maintenance for the Victoria Theatre, Schuster Center, Metropolitan Arts Center & Arts Garage.  This position must be committed to providing the highest standards in the industry.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the sanitation and cleanliness of all surfaces in every restroom, shower as assigned in area of responsibility. Stock all soap and paper products. Keep machines stocked and report any malfunction to Manager/Supervisor. Report any plumbing, electrical or lighting issues to Manager/Supervisor.
  • Ensure all windows are spot cleaned on regular basis, fully cleaned as directed on seasonal basis.
  • Carpets must be vacuumed and cleaned on a regular basis, as directed.
  • Marble must be swept, spot cleaned and buffed as directed or scheduled.
  • All fixtures must be dusted and cleaned as directed or scheduled.
  • Trash must be removed and disposed of properly and on regular schedule.
  • Must be familiar with proper chemical use and disposal.
  • Must be familiar with proper use, and maintenance of all equipment. Report any issues to Manager.
  • As directed, will be required to strip, wax, seal and/or refinish areas at regular intervals.
  • Must be able to take direction, supervision and work independently as needed.
  • Provide assistance to any co-worker or patron that requests help.
  • Assist in having an 'eye open' approach in all areas, keeping safe for co-workers and patrons. -Report any unsafe conditions or damages as quickly as possible.
  • Must be able to interface with other departments.
  • Must be able participate in setups and tare downs of events.


Garage Custodian Responsibilities

  • Sweep and mop the stairwells of the garage.
  • Sweep and mop the elevators and the elevator lobbies.
  • Polish the stainless elevator doors and railings.
  • Make sure the floor mats are properly positioned and safe.
  • Cleaning of all glass.
  • Cleaning employee's bathroom and making sure it is stocked with supplies.
  • Keeping track of supplies and informing manager when supplies are needed.
  • Trash removal from all levels.
  • Daily walks of entire property to pick up litter and ensure it is in good repair.
  • Report any repairs that are needed to manager.
  • Snow removal and salt spreading.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Friendly customer service is a top priority.
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Work requires written and verbal communication, organizational, and some interpersonal skills. Ability to work efficiently without direct supervision.
  • Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personalities and successfully work with all levels of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of various cleaning methods, supplies and equipment.


Education / Experience:

High School Diploma or GED required.  1-2 years of experience in housekeeping or property management preferred.  Equipment use and repair or similar skills preferred.


Working Conditions

Work requires a willingness to work a flexible schedule and will require weekend and/or evening work.  Must be able to work in extreme cold or hot weather environments as well as work in Indoor environment.   Working conditions are varied.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, push, pull, use hands; reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee will frequently be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  

Must be able to work in extreme range of temperatures and carry up to Fifty pounds. Must be able to run snow blower, snow shovel and spread salt in inclement weather. Required to walk steep inclines/steps and stand for long hours.
